Artist Biographies

Robin Tryon served as adjunct professor of flute at the University of Mount Union from 1985-2015, where she taught applied flute, directed the UMU flute choir and the Stark County Honors Flute Choir, and was flutist with the the UMU faculty woodwind quintet, sine nomine.  She holds a M.M. in flute performance from the University of Akron, and a B.M in music education from Bowling Green State University.  Her teachers and mentors include Maurice Sharp, Harold Skinner, and George Pope.  She has performed with the Canton Symphony, Canton Symphony Woodwind Quintet, Sounds of Sousa Band, Canton Concert Band, Tuscarawas Philharmonic, and has been featured as a soloist with several musical ensembles including the Sounds of Sousa Band, Canton Concert Band, UMU Wind Symphony, and the Alliance Symphony.  Active as a free-lance musician, she performs regularly in the pit orchestra of the Player’s Guild Theater.  Tryon is a clinician specializing in flute pedagogy, performance health, and flute choir performance, and is an adjudicator for competitions including those of the Ohio Music Teachers, Northeast Ohio, Central Ohio, and National Flute Associations.

Elaine Anderson is a professor of music at the University of Mount Union where she teaches ‘cello, chamber music, orchestral literature, theory and music appreciation classes, and conducts the Repertory Strings chamber orchestra. Dr. Anderson holds a D.M.A. in ‘cello performance from the University of Alabama, a M.M. in performance and theory from the Manhattan School of Music, and a B.M. in string education from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. Her chamber music studies have included coachings with the American String Quartet and the Cadék Trio; orchestral studies mentors include Nathan Stutch and Carlton McCreery. Dr. Anderson has performed in masterclasses for Yo-Yo Ma and Carter Brey. She has been a featured soloist with orchestras in Minnesota, Alabama, Ohio, North Carolina and South America. She served as a member of the Brevard Music Center ‘cello faculty in North Carolina for ten years and has performed in the Youngstown Symphony, Huntsville (AL) Symphony, and the Lake Placid Sinfonietta.

Brent Schloneger is a staff accompanist at the University of Mount Union and the choir accompanist and pianist for the Sunday morning classic service at The Chapel in Akron. He holds a Master's degree in Music from Kent State University, where he studied with Margaret Baxtresser. He is a member of the Ohio Music Teachers' Association, the Music Teachers National Association, and the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and he is currently the treasurer for both the OhioMTA and the Stark County Music Teachers Association. Brent is an independent teacher of piano. His students regularly participate in The Carnegie Hall Achievement Program as well as other events sponsored by OhioMTA and the Stark County Music Teachers Association. Brent is an active free-lance musician, and regularly serves as keyboardist for the pit orchestra at the Players Guild in Canton. He also has played for numerous shows at local high schools.
